If you find a stray dog…

If you find a lost dog, please make an attempt to locate the dog’s owner in the area that you find the animal.

A 2021 study in Dallas found that 70% of stray dogs were located less than one mile from their homes, and 42% were found within just 400 feet.

Ways to help a stray dog find it’s way home:

#1. Scanning the animal for a microchip

Local veterinarians can scan animals to check if they have a microchip.

Pocus

#2. Walk the dog around the neighborhood

If you are comfortable doing so, knock on doors and ask neighbors if they recognize the dog. Most lost dogs are found less than one mile from home.

#5. Post photos of the animal on social media.

Upload a photo of the pet to help identify them and connect with their family.
