Step 1 of 6 16% Covid 19 Volunteer Program Recovery Osceola County Animal Services will be reopening the volunteer program on Monday June 22, 2020. As we celebrate this milestone in our transition to an enriching volunteer experience, we must also recognize that, in order to remain safe, certain procedures must be followed and tight standards maintained. To this end, we are asking that all shelter-based volunteers and employees complete the following module prior to their next scheduled shift in which we will address: opportunity days and hours scheduling entering the building health check volunteer check in check out sanitation volunteer check out schedule changes and interruptions First name* Last name* Email address* Enter Email Confirm Email Opportunities days/hours All opportunities that were confirmed by a volunteer prior to our March shut down have been erased. All volunteers must be signed up for any opportunity through Volgistics prior to coming to the shelter. This must be done by 5:00 pm the day before in order to be on the list of approved volunteers on-site for the day. Initially, opportunities will be available as follows with only 1 volunteer assigned to an area at a time. If you live in the same household as another volunteer, an exception can be made and you should contact the volunteer coordinator. We will have a limit of 3 volunteers on-site at a time to begin: Adult Volunteers Approved for Dog Care and Cat Care (Completed dog care or cat care general training) Dog Care shifts are Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 11:00 am for all dog care (sanitation, feeding, walking) or 11:00 - 1:00 for dog bathing only Cat Care shifts are Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 10:00 am All volunteers returning will be trained by a mentor upon their return. Volunteers will have some new tasks that will be included in their animal care shift including sanitation steps and feeding of animals. After these steps are complete, enrichment, training, walking, and socializing time with the animals will occur as usual. During the training, the volunteer will receive instructions on added sanitation steps to keep all people and animals as safe as we can. Adult Veterinary Suite Interns and Volunteers Already Approved Vet Suite shifts are Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 1:00 pm or 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm Only 1 volunteer or intern may schedule for a shift at a time and there is a max of 4 individuals allowed in the veterinary suite room at a time including all staff and volunteers combined. Teen Volunteers and Adult Volunteers in Training: Currently we are beginning the reentry with adult volunteers approved in areas of cat care, dog care, and veterinary care. Teens and Adults in General Training will receive more information in the coming weeks. Mentors and Volunteers Assigned to Specific Tasks: Please contact the Coordinator for questions regarding your specific tasks. Volunteer check in and check out Entering the facility for your shift All volunteers will enter the building only through the front doors. Some volunteers have been entering through the sally port or break room; this practice will now be discontinued until further notice. It is expected of all staff and volunteers that a face covering or mask be worn when entering the shelter for the screening. If you are able to stay at least 6 feet from individuals for proper social distancing you may remove your mask or covering after reaching your designated work area (must be after check in and sign in procedures are completed). Due to the size of some areas of the shelter a mask/face covering must be worn. Volunteers arriving without a face covering will be asked to leave and supervisors will speak with staff not adhering to policies. All staff and volunteers must utilize hand sanitizer upon entering the shelter prior to temperature check. Check in Your temperature will be checked by a front staff member wearing a mask in the lobby with a non-touch thermometer. Please keep your mask on during the screening. It is advised that you have not overly exerted yourself in the heat of the day prior to the temperature check as this can raise your body temperature. Any temperature greater than 99.6 will be asked to leave. Anyone with a fever or other Covid-like condition(s) will be asked to leave for the day. Proper precautions and follow-up will need to occur before your return. The name tags for the scheduled volunteers for the day will be at the check in station and sanitized. After completing the temperature check, using hand sanitizer, and receiving your name tag, volunteers may proceed to the check in computer area where they will use Volgistics to sign in. Please keep your mask on due to the size of the hallways in this area and utilize hand sanitizer or wash your hands after using the keyboard. There will be a hand sanitizing station at the check in and check out area. Volunteers will be provided with pocket hand sanitizers to use throughout their shift. Sanitation We continue to request that all team members wash hands often to help prevent the spread of all germs and viruses. There are hand washing stations located throughout the shelter, as well as sinks for washing hands. Common area fixtures such as door handles will be disinfected often throughout the day. Check out When checking out, please place your mask back on. You will check out at the computer in Volgistics. You will then check out at the front desk with a team member by returning your name tag in the bin for sanitation at the front desk. Schedule changes Our volunteer management software (Volgistics) will be adjusted to allow volunteers to cancel a scheduled activity up to an hour prior to its start. Although it is preferred that volunteers cancel in Volgistics if they are not feeling well, it is also understood that this is sometimes difficult. If you are not feeling well, do not come in to the shelter, even if you have not cancelled your opportunity in Volgistics. Please send an email explaining the situation with the coordinator when you are feeling better. The hours of volunteer opportunity availability as described earlier are subject to change at any time due to changes in state, county and/or federal guidelines.
